Archives IPEW 2008 news14.01.2008. With last night's concert finished this year's IPEW in Bjelovar. The Festival ensemble performed works which they've been practicing at masterclasses during the Festival week with Ludwig Albert, John Beck, Gérard Lecointe, Henry Ch. Caget and Igor Lešnik. In a full concert hall in the Home of Culture, IPEW participants have prepared a real musical spectacle! The concert started with all the participants playing the piece Sounds of Japanese Drumming by Ludwig Albert, and continued with a walk through different styles in which on a humorous way the composers flert with popular music. This year's IPEW started and finished with a premiere of a Croatian composer. So, at last night's concert, No Business by Igor Lešnik at the text of Borko Auguštin was premiered, which was at the same time the end of Bjelovar's percussion week.
---- 12.01.2008. The fact that Bjelovar is inscribed in the map of world cities with percussion tradition was once again confirmed at last night's concert. The second professional ensemble at this year's IPEW was Percussion Claviers de Lyon, according to Igor Lešnik's words pure gold, maybe silver at world's percussion scene. With virtuoso-like playing and exceptional arrangements of their leader and member Gérard Lecointe, they affirmed the superlatives with which Lešnik presented them. Listening to Debussy, Prokofiev, Bernstein and Bach who rises out from Lecointe's work Point Bak was an unique experience, and the compositions itselves have once again revealed their time universality. The international marimba ensemble which works in Belgium, Flanders Marimba Masters, gave two enchores at the request of Bjelovar's audience at last night's concert. The leader of the ensemble, a marimba star Ludwig Albert, has chosen a more popular repertoire filled with smooth harmonies and catchy tunes. Among postgraduate students, the most noticable was the Taiwanese marimba player Lin Ching Cheng, who represented himself not only as an excellent marimbist, but as a composer as well.

This international ensemble with its soloist Evaristo Aguilar showed to the audience the atmosphere of the Mexican region of Huasteca from which Aguilar originates. Travelling through different feelings, tastes, colours and pictures in the work Voces de la Huasteca by Anders Åstrand they have thrilled Bjelovar's audience with almost completely improvised performance. Highly sophisticated sound rose from this spontaneous virtuosi! 09.01. Anders Åstrand

According to composer's notes, in an agressive, almost wild and barbaric manner, they led us into the world of a Mayan dance, Phillip Mikula's inspiration for his work Xpu-Ha Experiment. With short and interesting verbal intermezzos, John H. Beck explained to the audience each composition on the programme. With From here to there by Tom Nazziola and Mudra by Bob Becker, the ensemble have shown its excellent technical and interpretative possibilities. Woodwork by Jan Bach, composed on the echo principes and the imitation of body movement, was visually interesting as well for its extremely active arm and body work which resembles the Balinese dance of Shiva. The concert finished in a more traditional manner with Gainsborough by Thomas Gauger, based on steady meter, rythm and proportional harmonies. ---- 07.01.2008. International Percussion Ensemble Week 2008 started with the festive premiere of Anarkohor.
The Italian Santangelo family have shown to the audience all the beauties of the Brasilian music for vibraphone and marimba from the notebook of Ney Rosauro.
The concert finished in a less formal atmosphere of popular music with which Cibulka and Lešnik flert in their Concerto for Percussions. ---- 07.01.2008. Dear audience, journalists, musicians, percussionists, ---- 06.01.2008.
IPEW 2008.
We are one day away from the official beginning of the 5th International Percussion Week, Bjelovar 2008. However, many attendants of the HDGPP seminar are already there – students of the Percussion Department of the Zagreb Academy of Music, members of the biNg bang ensemble, the famous Santangelo family who has its fifth generation in the percussion „bussiness“, and tomorrow the famous Eastman Percussion Ensemble from USA with John H. Beck is arriving, as well as one of the most exciting percussionists of today - Ludwig Albert with its students. The schedule in Bjelovar's Home of Culture is already overcrowded. The stage is cramfulled with various kinds of percussions. The musical reherseals are getting into full swing, and three this year's first performances are being practiced (Berislav Šipuš, Anarhokor, Lin Ching Cheng, Kaleidoscope, Igor Lešnik, No Business), as well as the works for the Monday and Tuesday concerts. We are inviting You to "plunge" into Bjelovar and listen to our concerts!!!
---- ---- «Excellent atmosphere, interested and satisfied audience, joy of socializing and exchanging the experiences of musicians from various corners of the world – it is a short and concise balance of the Bjelovar Percussion Week» ---- «Percussion blooming in Bjelovar!» ---- Plunge into Bjelovar!Dear audience, musicians and music lovers,
Partner character of IPEW in its fifth edition will be expanded through one more collaboration! Beside past collaboration with Slovenian BUMfest from Žalec, IPEW has achieved the announced partnership with the Austrian festival Night of Percussion, held in Graz middle of January. This kind of approach and festival linking is the best way to secure its position on the European festival map but also a way for IPEW to actively participate in creating the future of the European percussion scene. Ensembles Global Percussion Network and Percussion Claviers de Lyon will appear in Graz on January 14th as guest lecturers; two concerts will be held in Orpheum the same evening as well. Ensemble Studio Percussion, who appeared in Graz last year as guest performers got an ovation and praises from the critics, serving thus as an encouraging step for the partnership between our and the Austrian festival. On 13 th of December in city of Zagreb 5. IPEW was presented to croatian journalists. IPEW was presented by artistic director Igor Lešnik, president Sonja Štefanac, HDGPP secretary Josip Burjan and Identitet production.
